I don't think so. I am pretty sure I have seen some complaints around here about onboard video. Try doing a search and see what comes up. Also, you can get some decent video cards now a days for cheap. Depends on if he needs PCI, PCIx, or AGP.

Yeah, the Intel integrated solution will not work. I think the only compatible onboard graphics will only come on nVidia nForce based chipsets with integrated graphics. And even then, it leaches away from your system RAM and is only as good as a GeForce 4 MX. I don't really know of any major manufacturers (Dell, HP/Compaq, eMachines/Gateway, etc) who use nForce chipsets, as they're usually for people who build their own computers.

I think guild wars will run with a intergrated graphic card. I have one on my comp and I could run a beta version but it was very choppy and laggy. But the next beta event it said my card was not good enough and would freeze at 25% loaded. Have not played guild wars since.

That's the exact card that I have and yes, he will be able to play but it will be very choppy/laggy as others have said. I also am experiencing some random crashes but I don't know if that's graphic card related.

You should look at the 6600GT as being the best bang for the buck.

Crap, I got a Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller, on my laptop. This doesn't look to promising if I want to play this game.
Can you even add a new video card for a laptop?

You can probley find a PCIe for a decent price... Around $200 and you won't have to upgrade for another couple of years.
And if your serious that you don't play games often, then you might be out of luck since there isn't a large number of cards that are a cheap price for that type of slot.

I kind of doubt it on a laptop that you have. Some of the newer laptops support a swappable video card, but if your computer is running IGP, I doubt it has an expansion slot.

I'd look up / call the manufactor about it. Or just search your guide book. (www.google.com is mine)
If it is possible, it would cost a pretty penny.

What counts as cheap?
If you have more than 512MB of memory and want a cheap card, you might want to look into a GeForce 6200TC card (about $60) - if you have 512MB or less, you probably want to look into the Radeon x300. The 6200TC is faster but it takes system memory.
Spending a bit more money, you have the 6200 and x600Pro/x600XT.
After that, you have the 6600, x700, x700Pro and 6600GT - which is about the top-end of what I'd consider 'cheap'.
Exact relative placements might be imperfect, and I'm not exactly sure where the sweet-spot for the price/performance ratio would be.
